Mayco Stoneware Crystal Purple Aster Brush-on Glaze

Mayco Stoneware Crystal Purple Aster Brush-on Glaze

SKU: MSW199

Mayco’s SW-199 Purple Aster Brush-on Glaze is a glossy, semi-opaque lavender glaze that breaks over texture and develops a pale violet frost; deep blue crystals melt into cascading blossoms of indigo cone 6. Cone 10 colour darkens slightly. No change to crystals.

Stoneware crystal glazes are designed to expand upon the surface with dazzling bursts of colour. Fired results will vary based on ware’s orientation. Crystals will settle to the bottom of the jar and will need a good mixing prior to initial use. Re-stir between each coat. Stir with palette knife or another unpainted tool. Avoid placing crystals near the bottom third of a vertical piece as they may cause additional movement during firing. Crystals will flow more than the base glaze. While the glaze is wet, use your fan brush to redistribute the crystals to achieve balanced coverage. Over-application or heavy deposition of the crystals can cause pin holing or running. When storing a crystal glaze, you may consider storing upside down to facilitate crystal dispersion on the next use.

Good to know:

  • Mayco's Stoneware glazes are formulated to be friendly to the user in application and firing.
  • Purple Aster uses SW165 Lavender Mist as the base glaze. This glaze stable at 3 coats, even with heavy application. Crystals can create movement. Avoid having a heavy concentration of crystals near the bottom of your piece. Can be used in oxidation or reduction firings. Results may vary. The choice of clay body, thickness of application, firing process, and temperature will greatly affect the fired results. Always test your application on your clay body in your kiln environment.
  • Non-toxic (lead-free)– Perfect for tableware. Please follow manufacturer instructions.
  • Designed to fire to cone 6 (approx. 1230°C.)
  • Successfully used at cone 10, oxidation or reduction
  • Glazes will move to create interest and visual appeal without running off your ware and ruining your kiln shelves.
  • They work well with each and other Mayco glazes, providing endless opportunities to combine and layer to create intriguing visual effects.
