Were you blown away by the creations made by the potters this week on The Great Pottery Throw Down using the firing technique of raku?
Did you know they were using our Roderveld Raku Pyramid Kilns?
The results of raku pottery are absolutely stunning: the technique creates a smoky finish to pieces, broken up by moments of crackling in the ceramic, and colours become deep and moody glazes.
Raku firing really is one of the most natural techniques that you can encounter in pottery. In raku firing, all of nature's elements are used, earth, fire, air, and water. The earth is used to make the pot, then it is put into a reduction chamber kiln, then plunged into water. The cold water halts the firing process. A lovely fact about raku pottery is that its name literally translates as 'happiness in the accident'.
Our Roderveld Raku Pyramid Kilns are designed specifically for the raku firing process and are manufactured here at our Stoke-on-Trent manufacturing warehouse by our highly skilled kiln making experts.
