BERLIN Grey Stoneware Clay
Grey stoneware clay with 40% impalpable grog 0-0.2 mm (up to 80 Mesh). Formulated for artistic ceramics, it is ideal for throwing and modelling smooth pieces with fine details. The high content of grog confers an excellent behaviour during drying and firing. Depending on the firing temperature, it develops an interesting range of greys, from cement to dark grey, which satisfies the most avant-garde trends in artistic ceramics. Suitable for tableware (food-safe), according to ISO 6486. Available in extruded body (moist form).
Firing range recommended for the clay to develop its best performance, both in terms of technical and safety characteristics, under conventional firing conditions. The colour samples may show temperatures outside the recommended range to provide a broader view, but these are pieces fired under controlled conditions. Cone equivalence according to Orton table for self-supporting cones, regular-SSB and 150ºC/hr heating rate.
Specifications:
- Firing range: 1200-1300°C / Cone 5-10
- Biscuit temperature: 1000°C / Cone 06
- Water content: 19%
- Plasticity (IP Atterberg): 16
- Carbonate content (CaCO3): 0%
- Drying shrinkage: 5.7%
- Firing shrinkage 1300°C: 6.4%
- Porosity (water absorption) at 1300°C: 0.1%
- Dry bending strength: 2.9 N/mm2
- Fired bending strength 1240°C: 51.4 N/mm2
- Thermal coefficient 1300°C (25-500°C): 60.1x10^-7°C ^-1
- Firing: Ceramic kiln high fire
- Grog: Impalpable grog
- State: Moist form (plastic body)
