Laguna Medium Blue Underglaze Pen

Laguna Medium Blue Underglaze Pen

SKU: P4008

Laguna medium blue underglaze pen was developed for cone 05 and 06 firings, most of the colours do quite well at much higher temperatures. Testing has yielded the following results:

  • Cone 06 - 04: All colours remain strong and vibrant.
  • Cone 6: Most colours remain strong and vibrant. Exceptions: Chartreuse, Light Yellow, and Light Pink are weak. Greens, Peach Sun, and Purple Maroon change colour somewhat.
  • Cone 10: Same as cone 6 with the following exceptions: Chartreuse, Peach, and Light Pink completely disappear.

Note: Only food safe if a food-safe clear glaze is applied over these underglazes.

Underglaze pens are simple and easy to use. They are easy to clean and difficult to clog. They come with four metal nibs - Extra Fine (0.3mm), Fine (0.5mm), Medium (0.7mm) and Bold (0.9mm).

One oz. of glaze covers approximately 30 square inches. One 6" x 6" tile uses less than 1 oz. underglaze and just a bit more than one ounce glaze. One 8" x 8" tile uses almost 2 oz. glaze.

Laguna Underglaze Pen Instructions:

Laguna Underglaze Pens are simple devices that are easy to use. If your tip does become clogged, run water through it to clean the passageway. Or for the easiest cleaning results, buy a Laguna Precision Trailing Bottle and fill it with water. Place a pen tip on it and squeeze the water out to get a perfectly cleaned tip.

When you first get your Laguna Underglaze Pen you may need to vigorously shake it to get the underglaze to an even consistency. If your pen sits for weeks or months unused you may have to repeat this procedure again.

When using the Laguna Underglaze Pen, maintain a small amount of squeezing pressure on the pen as you move the tip over the clay surface. Once underglaze is applied it can still be manipulated on your clay form. You can spread it with your finger or with other tools. Thus, you can maintain sharply defined lines as well as soft and shaded areas. In short, your decorating process can be like other paint, pastel or chalk processes.

The metal tips of the Laguna Underglaze Pen create their own thread as they screw onto the plastic tip of the pen. The top of the pen may be unscrewed so that the pen may be refilled with replacement Laguna Underglaze.
